Please welcome your new Social Media Liaison: Larry Eames

Hi Hi! My name Larry Eames (she and he pronouns) and I’m excited to be serving as your social media coordinator!

I’m currently working on my MLIS at the University of Washington iSchool and working at Suzzallo Library as a Graduate Reference Assistant in Government Publications, Maps, Microforms, and Newspapers. You can find me personally on Twitter @liblarrian. I’m excited to get more involved with ArLiSNAP after the 2018 New York ArLiSNA conference and I’m even more excited to connect with all of you!
Before Library School, I received a BA in Religious Studies and an MA in the Humanities focused on Art History and Print Culture. Outside of class, I play D&D and enjoy knitting and listening to podcasts on Seattle’s many rainy days. Right now, I’m hooked on Spirits Podcast, the CBC’s Because News, and Scriptnotes, but I’m always taking recs.

Job Posting: Media Relations Manager, UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley CA

The Media Relations Manager is responsible for developing and executing media relations for the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Under minimal supervision, they plan short- and long-term strategies to increase audience, exposure, and support for film and exhibition programs and institutional activities.
*Manages media relations for art and film programs. Generates maximum press coverage of BAMPFA and co-sponsored events and initiatives through media outlets.
*Works with local, national, and international print, radio, television, and internet media outlets to garner press coverage.
*Proactively pitches/solicits news stories, exhibition and film reviews, previews and creates and supplies information and materials, oversees interviews and maintains on-going relationships with media personnel.
*Writes, edits, and proofreads press releases, advance exhibition schedules, movie guide information, news stories and other communications collateral and campaigns as assigned, and disseminates materials.
*Meets critics, art and film writers, camera crews, and other media personnel at film screenings, art exhibitions, public programs, and other institutional events.
*Interfaces between director, curators, artists, and filmmakers and press.
*Cultivates industry contacts on an ongoing basis.
*Produces press conferences and other major news announcements as necessary.
*Speaks publically on behalf of the museum at press and other public events.
*Supervises the creation of press kits and other collateral as needed.
*Creates, develops, and maintains database of press contacts, public relations contacts, community contacts, and other institutions, etc.
*Ensures that BAMPFA’s messages reach the widest possible audiences by building and cultivating relationships with other arts and nonprofits and campus units.
*Participates in, and may lead, social media activities for museum, including creating visuals, posting, and building innovative engagement strategies.
*Assists in achieving long-range media relations strategies of BAMPFA by serving on campus committees, as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Communications, that focus on public and media relations, and other communication topics including the use of social media and related technologies.
*Works with BAMPFA Director of Marketing and Communications to conceive media relations strategy and shape institutional image in our highly competitive industry and market.
*Works with BAMPFA staff as needed to ensure continuity of BAMPFA’s media messaging,
*Produces photography for institution and events.
*Supervises student assistants in the collating and distribution of media relations materials, archive materials, social media postings, general clerical duties and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Thorough knowledge of the concepts and principles of news, media communications and media relations.
• Knowledge of media outlets to solicit, shape and disseminate news coverage.
• Knowledge of the BAMPFA, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives, programs and infrastructure.
• Broad knowledge of contemporary and historical art and film as well as museum practices and the arts industry.
• Demonstrated strong writing skills to prepare a variety of materials for public consumption, as well as for inter-departmental communications.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
• Excellent working knowledge of still photography and short-form video.
• Knowledge of Mac OS and MS Office; Filemaker; Google mail, calendar, and Drive; Adobe Acrobat.
• Demonstrated experience in managing social media and general understanding of digital analytics and media strategy.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work under deadlines, which requires excellent organizational skills, time management efficiency, and careful attention to details.
• Analytical skills to interpret data and prepare conclusions.
• Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.

Getty Images is looking for a Manager, Site Merchandising to help bring life to our consumer voice. The Manager, Site Merchandising will manage the promotion of our images across our websites and apps to drive deep content engagement and sharing of content through social channels. This person must have experience with online content programming as they will help define and implement our B2C content strategy. Candidates should have a proven track record of optimizing content performance to drive deep customer engagement.

The Manager, Site Merchandising will work closely with the Product Management team as well as our Creative and Editorial content teams – helping them assess performance of our content programs and deliver scalable optimizations to these programs.     • Proactively working with Product and Content teams to maintain aggressive programming schedules, do advance planning for larger initiatives, and provide general programming feedback based on your deep qualitative and quantitative knowledge of what drives customer engagement.
    • Monitoring content performance and use this data to inform new content and improve existing content
    • Leveraging analytics to provide performance data and guidance to content curators, partners, Product Management, Engineering, and Sales teams.

Job Posting: Director of Digital and Emerging Media, Cooper Hewitt Museum

Cooper-Hewitt is looking for a creative leader to serve as Director of Digital and Emerging Media.

This is a senior level position that will:

1) lead the creative and strategic development of the Museum’s presence online (www.cooperhewitt.org)
2) design and develop an effective and highly successful eCommerce component;
3) lead the effort to elevate the museum’s presence on the web during a two year renovation period when the museum will be programming offsite and online; and 4) lead and expand the museum’s digital and social media presence by managing platforms that include blogs, Twitter, Face book, mobile, and others.

This position is crucial to all of the activities that support Cooper-Hewitt’s virtual presence, not only the strengthening of the online presence, including eCommerce, but through other creative opportunities that the incumbent will create and recommend. This position reports to the Director of the Museum and serves as part of the senior management team.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Five or more years experience in a senior strategic and technical leadership/supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated skills as a conceptual, strategic planner and interaction designer who is able to generate usable and useful concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management, administration, and staff supervision in a distributed computing environment involving multiple facilities and varying disciplinary requirements. Ability to balance outsourcing and staff responsibilities.
  • Superior mastery knowledge of the design, prototyping and development of interactive technology, standards, and scripting and programming languages.
  • Experience coordinating the design and development of complex websites and eCommerce sites, receiving input from a variety of non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and executing eCommerce strategies and programs that build top-line growth. Familiarity with websites metrics and social media strategies and initiatives.
  • Has designed, prototyped and managed complex and interactive websites, including visual design and branding across multiple platforms.
  • Experience effectively formulating, analyzing, and presenting project plans, such as recommending software components, media assets and technical approaches for complex and interactive websites.
  • Appreciation and some knowledge of international and contemporary design.
