Midstates Chapter Fall Meeting, October 4-5 (Free for students!)

The ARLIS/NA Midstates Chapter Fall 2019 meeting will be held at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan on Friday, October 4. The $20.00 meeting fee is waived for students. 8:30 – 9:00am, Breakfast, Welcome, and Introductions
deSalle Auditorium, Cranbrook Art Museum

9:00 – 10:15am
Business Meeting

10:15 – 10:30am

10:30 – 11:30am

11:30am – 1:00pm Lunch at Reflections Cafe, Cranbrook Institute of Science

1:00 – 2:00pm
Professional topic discussion (stay tuned for an opportunity to select the topic)

2:30 – 4:30pm
Guided Cranbrook Walking Tour: (extra cost of $30)

2:30pm Meet Center Staff at Cranbrook Art Museum
2:45pm Historic Cranbrook Campus walking tour
3:15pm Saarinen House tour
4:10pm Return to Cranbrook Art Museum, admission included in tour price

Optional Evening Activities:
6:00-7:30pm Claire Bishop lecture, deSalle Auditorium in the Cranbrook Art Museum.

The Cranbrook Institute of Science is open until 10:00pm on Friday evenings. Admission after 5:00pm is free on the first Friday of each month (underwritten by MASCO Corporation Foundation). All of the galleries will be open. Planetarium shows are $5.00 each and last approximately 45 minutes. Friday showing times: 6:00pm, 7:00pm, 8:00pm. and 9:00pm. Observatory is open 8:30-10:00pm, weather permitting.

Saturday, October 5

9am Meet for breakfast/coffee followed by DIY tours

Saturday will be a “Day in Detroit”. Indicate your interests on the registration form and the Midstates Chapter will facilitate informal group tours of Detroit. Potential sites include the DIA, MOCAD, Riverfront Walk and Eastern Market, Detroit Walking Tour, Public Art (e.g., Heidelberg Project, Street Art, Belle Isle, etc.).

Save the date! The ARLIS/NA Midstates Chapter is joining forces with ARLIS/NA Twin Cities and VRA Midwest for a joint conference in Madison, Wisconsin September 12-13, 2014.

APPLY NOW! ARLIS/NA Midstates SEI Travel Award

On behalf of the ARLIS/NA Midstates Chapter, the Awards Committee is pleased to accept applications for the SEI Travel Award. The annual 3.5 day ARLIS/NA-VRAF Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Images delivers workshops on current issues for VR professionals, as well as many opportunities to network with colleagues.

This year SEI will be held from June 10-13, 2014 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and the SEI Travel Award of $300 is meant to offset the registration cost by half. Only ARLIS/NAMidstates Chapter members are eligible. This Travel Award will be granted based on one or more of the following criteria: financial need; level of chapter participation; and relevance of the curriculum to professional development.

To apply for this award please submit a letter of application including relevant criteria and how you will benefit from attending SEI at the University of Illinois. You must also indicate the level of funding you expect to receive from your institution and include a current resume or CV. Please send applications via email to Viveca Pattison Robichaud (vivecarobichaud@nd.edu), Marsha Stevenson (Stevenson.2@nd.edu) and Sara Stigberg (s-stigberg@northwestern.edu).

Applications received by May 14, 2014 will be given first consideration. The recipient must confirm in writing that they will be able to use the award and will need to provide proof of registration for SEI to receive the travel award. Award recipients will not be able to apply again for three years. After receiving the award, the recipient must submit a short report indicating the value of the award to their professional development activities.

This award is intended for members of the ARLIS/NA Midstates Chapter.
