ARLIS Midstates Chapter Announcement/CFP for students

Have you recently completed research on a topic related to art librarianship, including museums, visual resources, special collections, teaching and learning,  outreach and audience engagement, or digital stewardship?

Would you like to share your research and findings with the ARLIS/NA Midstates and gain valuable presentation experience?

The ARLIS/NA Midstates chapter is currently soliciting student proposals for brief presentations to take place at the Fall business meeting, which will be held at the Cranbrook Art Academy in Bloomfield Hills, MI on Friday October 4th. Presentations should be approximately 15 minutes long and include some sort of visual component, e.g. slides.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please email Autumn Wetli at autumnnw@umich.edu with your name, institutional affiliation, and a short abstract. Proposals are due by the end of Saturday August 31st, 2019.

Not into presenting, but still interested in attending? Join us!

Participating in Midstates is a great way to learn about art librarianship, meet wonderful people, and learn about regional art institutions and museums. Chapter membership is not required to attend.

Location:

The fall business meeting will take place at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, one of the nation’s top-ranked schools devoted exclusively to graduate education in art, architecture, craft, and design. The 19-acre campus is located just outside of Detroit, Michigan, and was designed in the Arts and Crafts style by Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen. The sculpture-filled campus of landscaped courtyards and thoughtfully-constructed buildings is set against woods, lakes, and streams.

Program:

Friday, October 4 will include a business meeting, presentations, a facilitated group discussion on professional topics, lunch, and a tour of campus. Evening activities might include dinner in Detroit or a local lecture from art historian Clare Bishop, who is speaking at Cranbrook.

On Saturday, October 5 members will be able to choose from a variety of Detroit art activities. Options may include a public walking tour, a public art tour, or a visit to the Detroit Institute of Art.
Reserve your spot by contacting Autumn Wetli at autumnnw@umich.edu.
