Job Description:

The Visual Resources Curator is responsible for the development, cataloging and maintenance of visual resources in art, consisting of digital image collections. This position reports to the Head Librarian at the Art Institute of Boston. The successful candidate will interface with the University’s integrated arts, art history and studio art programs. Responsibilities include: providing students and faculty with access to high quality digital and print art images; developing a local digital image collection in collaboration with faculty and librarians to support teaching, research, and creative work; cataloging art images according to the VRC core metadata standards; instructing individuals and classes on the use of image databases; actively promoting the art library’s digital image collections, resources and services; developing policies and procedures locally as well as liaise with the regional online catalog consortium (FLO) and  other academic Visual Resource collections; collaborating with faculty and librarians in developing and promoting relevant media-focused special projects (e.g., digital exhibits, streaming media presentations); providing reference and circulation support for a vibrant art library; and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in arts discipline.
  2. Two years minimum experience working with a visual resources collection, preferably in an academic library setting.
  3. Working knowledge of visual resources cataloging practices (e.g., VRACore, CCO, AAT) and controlled vocabularies).
  4. Strong digital image production skills, including image correction and scanning.
  5. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some early morning, evening or Saturday hours.

Reader Services Librarian – Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, CA

Working under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Library, the Reader Services Librarian will coordinate and provide research, instructional, and outreach services for the Library’s users, both on- and offsite. Other responsibilities include facilitating access to the Library’s collections through supervising the staff and operations of the Ahmanson Reading Room, contributing to the development and management of the secondary collections, and representing the Library to students, visitors, and donors through tours and presentations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Fine Arts & Architecture Student Librarian

This position regularly requires the part-time staff member to develop and lead one-time and on-going departmental projects. Projects may include working with physical and digital collections, creating online learning tools, conducting original research, and cultivating work relationships with full-time library colleagues, as well as individuals and organizations on campus and in regional arts, architecture, and planning communities. The person hired will also staff the Fine Arts reference desk in the early evenings a few days a week, and will be put into rotation as the sole librarian at the Knowledge Commons Service Desk on Saturday afternoons. Training will be provided.

Preference will be given to:

  • a student working toward a Master’s in Library Science (or similar) degree, or who has equivalent library work experience.
  • Academic background in visual arts, performing arts, art history, architecture, planning, history, or communication.
  • Experience with digital image scanning, graphic design, and/or multimedia editing software (such as Adobe CS suite, Final Cut Pro, etc).

ART BIBLIOGRAPHER, ASIAN LANGUAGES – THE CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART

The Cleveland Museum of Art’s Ingalls Library and Museum Archives seeks qualified candidates for its Art Bibliographer – Asian Languages position.  The Art Bibliographer— Asian Languages works in conjunction with the Director of Library and Archives to ensure the development of the Ingalls Library collection in accordance with the written Collection Development Policy and through established relationships with vendors world-wide. The position is responsible for the identification and selection of books and other intellectual materials in Asian languages for the museum library.  Typical duties include working on matters pertaining to selection of materials and overall collection development including establishing book selection policy and criteria for acquisitions based on knowledge of the literature and needs of current and future researchers; maintains primary responsibility for the library’s acquisition of new materials in Asian languages through established relationships with key vendors; and assists with the receipt and processing of all Asian language gifts, exchanges, and transfer materials in all formats including evaluation of materials for relevance to collection.

A Master’s degree (M.A.) or Ph.D in art history required.  Knowledge of art historical literature.  Foreign language fluency in either Chinese or Japanese required; reading knowledge of Korean and whichever of Chinese or Japanese where fluency is lacking.  Master’s degree in Library Science (M.L.S.) from an ALA accredited program preferred.   Prior experience working in an academic or research library, preferably in an acquisitions department, and familiarity with integrated library systems and OCLC are desirable.  Excellent research, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills including the ability to create policy; supervise staff, interns, and volunteers; prioritize and manage workflow, projects and multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and solving problems in a dynamic environment.   Must have experience developing and managing relationships with vendors, publishers and interface providers. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with institutional departments, community partners and potential donors.

The curator is responsible for the organization, development, and day-to-day operations of the Visual Resources Collection. Job Opportunity: Library Assistant (Part-time) – Interlochen Center for the Arts

Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America’s most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance and fine arts presentations seeks to fill a part time, academy school year (end of August-May) position for a Library Assistant.

The Fennell Music Library serves the music program (with dozens of large and small ensembles needs as well as solo repertoire) of two world-renowned programs, Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy, and includes extensive collections in band, orchestral, choral, chamber music, jazz, scores, and recordings. 

The Seabury Academic Library serves the many arts and academic programs at both Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy in a variety of ways. 

The library staff:

  • Build meaningful relationships with faculty, staff and students.
  • Assist patrons in finding information.
  • Provide a collection that reflects and anticipates patron’s needs.
