ARCHITECTURE AND ART LIBRARIAN, MIT Libraries, to use familiarity with the use and communication of research information in architecture and art to shape and deliver programs of instruction, reference, outreach, and resource selection; and serve as liaison to an active community of users involved in research and teaching at the leading edge of the field. Will act as the Libraries’ expert on research, learning culture, and information practices of the architectural design; building technology; computation; and history, theory, and criticism communities in the Department of Architecture. Duties include selecting and advocating for acquisition and discovery of research materials, targeting communications for creating awareness of services and collections and working to build connections within the communities; providing reference support and information-related instruction, including that regarding research skills, art and architectural image discovery and repositories, visual literacy and presentation tools; collaborating with colleagues to select, deliver, and support visual collections; promoting the Libraries’ repository-based services and providing support for scholarly publishing initiatives; acting as a participating member of the arts and humanities community of practice with fellow liaison librarians; coordinating the Rotch Library exhibits program; and actively participating in system-wide initiatives and serving on committees and task forces, communicating actively with fellow professionals through research, writing or presentations, and/or professional service activities.

Librarian – AMDA, College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, Los Angeles, CA
AMDA, College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, is one of the foremost postsecondary performing arts schools in the country and has campuses in New York City and Los Angeles. AMDA is currently seeking a librarian based at our Los Angeles campus.
Under the supervision of the library director, the librarian participates in all aspects of running the library, including working at the reference desk, developing an online cataloging system, assisting with collection development, and training and supervising student assistants.
Responsibilities:
Provides reference services to faculty, students, and alumni
Supervises the classification of books, music, and audiovisual materials
Plays a major role in the development of an online cataloging system for the library
Catalogs and prepares finding aids for library materials
Assists with collection development
Supervises the reformatting and preservation of audiovisual materials
Trains and supervises student assistants
Requirements:
Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program
Background in music and the performing arts preferred
Experience working with library classification systems, MARC formatting, bibliographic resources, and online catalogs
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer operating systems
Experience with audiovisual materials
Excellent written / oral communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and work positively with a diverse student body
Evening and weekend work may be required

Reader Services Librarian – Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, CA

Working under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Library, the Reader Services Librarian will coordinate and provide research, instructional, and outreach services for the Library’s users, both on- and offsite. Other responsibilities include facilitating access to the Library’s collections through supervising the staff and operations of the Ahmanson Reading Room, contributing to the development and management of the secondary collections, and representing the Library to students, visitors, and donors through tours and presentations. Develops and implements policies and procedures regarding the care and use of a world-renowned research collection. Supervises two full-time library assistants and has frequent and regular contact with curatorial and Technical Services staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science (or equivalent).
* Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; demonstrated effectiveness in working with scholars and advanced students in the humanities and in making public presentations.
* Knowledge of technologies used in the management and dissemination of special collections materials. Working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, and library applications such as Millennium ILS, Aeon, ArchivesSpace, and CONTENTdm.
* Knowledge of the basic history, theory, and professional practices associated with materials found in special collections, including rare books, manuscripts, and graphic materials.
* Knowledge of intellectual property rights, copyright, rights management, researcher and donor privacy, and other legal issues.
* Demonstrated participation in relevant professional organizations and activities, and familiarity with the standards and best practices promulgated by core groups such as the ACRL Rare Books and Manuscripts Section and the Society of American Archivists.
