Job Opportunity: Public Services Librarian, AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts

The AMDA LA campus has an opening for our Public Services Librarian position.The Public Services Librarian will join the Library Director and Assistant Director in developing an engaging on-campus presence and expand the library’s involvement in the AMDA community. This position provides a great opportunity to build new policies and services as well as make an impact on the library’s future development. The successful candidate will have a passion for community engagement and have strong, creative problem-solving skills. The Public Services Librarian will be part of a small, 3-person team which oversees all library operations; the successful candidate must therefore be able to work collaboratively as part of a team and be willing to cross-train in other areas outside their main duties.

Primary Responsibilities:-Supervise and oversee student worker staff (approx. 15)
-Coordinate student and operational scheduling
-Shared point of contact for worker training and policies
-Maintain Library records and patron services
-Provide ongoing reference, technology, and collection access assistance
-Evaluate collection resources, including requests
-Provide shared outreach and instruction to AMDA classes and faculty
-Develop programming, events, and activities to engage the AMDA community
-Engage students, faculty, and staff with both physical and digital outreach platforms (i.e. website, social media, newsletters, displays, etc.)

Qualifications:-Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science or related from an ALA-accredited institution required
-Prior experience providing outreach, library services, and educational support services in an academic or higher education setting required
-Evidence of initiative and flexibility as well as excellent analytical and project management skills required
-Background in the performing arts is preferred; other disciplines including the arts and humanities are highly recommended
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills are paramount; work is done in close collaboration with other members of the library staff
-Knowledge and familiarity with aspects of library operations, including but not limited to teaching/learning methods, technology/tools, and cataloging practices/standards
-Membership and activity in professional organizations is highly encouraged
-Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
