Job Opportunity: Digital Services Specialist, ArtCenter College of Design

The Digital Services Specialist is responsible for various digital projects in the Library including technical support, scanning and digitizing, data analysis, project tracking and contributing content for library resources on the website and other media.

Reports to: Library Systems and Digital Collections Administrator
FLSA status: Non-exempt
Salary grade: 7


·         Bachelor’s degree in art, design, media, information science or related studies from an accredited college or university

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, able to balance priorities, take initiative, reliable and resourceful

·         Strong problem-solving and logic skills with an aptitude for troubleshooting issues

·         Experience with user support and possessing an exemplary customer service attitude

·         Collaboration skills with demonstrated success working on teams

·         Proficiency with databases, social media, web technology, proxies, standard operating systems and software knowledge necessary to perform technical support tasks

·         A commitment to diversity, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities

Preferred Qualifications

·         Master’s degree in art, design, media, information science or related studies from an accredited college or university

·         Experience with asset management, project management, library services platforms, discovery layers, video and image editing, digital media production, web forms, content management systems, and web publishing software

·         Understanding of authentication and proxy-rewrite methods for online resources

·         Experience operating scanning equipment and editing digital images and text

·         Knowledge of metadata best practices with prior experience cataloging images, preferably using VRA Core 4.0, CCO, Getty Vocabularies, and Library of Congress Authorities

·         Understanding of copyright laws and rights management issues in a digital environment

·         Cultural literacy and background in art and design history

Essential Functions
Electronic Resources — 20%

·         Provide technical support for the Library’s online resources as part of an interdepartmental workflow

·         Set up, test, and maintain proxy configurations for trials, new databases, cancellations, and updates

·         Maintain Online Resources A-Z list

·         Provide IP ranges to vendors

Software and Online Access — 20%

·         Routinely verify access and functionality of the discovery layer, WebPAC, mobile application, website, and online resources

·         Problem-solve and troubleshoot technical issues with hardware, software, and patron access to online content and services

·         Open and manage helpdesk tickets with vendors

·         Assist with maintaining the WebPAC and website

·         Manage admin settings for discovery layer and online resources

·         Create and update web forms

·         Assist with installation, integration, migration and implementation of library software

User Support and Services — 20%

·         Provide patron support for inquiries and access issues for library digital resources

·         Provide outreach for digitization services

·         Train faculty and TAs to use equipment in the Faculty Technology Studio

·         Provide technical assistance for library staff

·         Maintain tutorials and troubleshooting guides for users

Digitization — 20%

·         Scan articles for e-reserves

·         Digitize and catalog images using best practices, cataloging standards, and authority records

·         Maintain color management and calibration of equipment according to best-practice protocols

·         Train, schedule, and supervise student workers and interns assisting with cataloging, scanning, and image editing

·         Check quality control of digital images and metadata

·         Upload images to the digital image repository

·         Back up working files

Project Tracking and Data Analysis — 15%

·         Manage tracking of workflows, projects, batches, and issue resolution

·         Document setup specifications, tasks, and solutions in library project management software, wiki, and document-sharing sites

·         Query data and gather statistics for analysis, reporting, surveys, and evidence-based decision making

Miscellaneous Job Functions — 5%

·         Contribute content for library website, mobile application, maps, information graphics, video tutorials, social media, and other promotional channels following media and branding guidelines

·         Maintain current knowledge of technology and metadata emerging trends and best practices in academic libraries via professional communications and continuing education

·         Perform related duties as assigned to meet departmental, library, and institutional priorities, goals, and objectives

·         May be assigned special projects related to the Library as needed
