Directly manages and oversees the University of New Mexico Harwood Museum of Art’s fine arts collections, their acquistion, documentation, housing, use, preservation, disposition, inventory and maintenance, maintenance reports and updates for new material. The Collections Manager will care for the Harwood collections, the collections database, the collections online, and the archives.
As curator of collections, the Collections Manager will apply interactive digital technologies to the online collection to increase public engagement with the Harwood’s art online, and in the museum’s galleries. Receives, prepares, and catalogs new materials; plans and organizes exhibition-related movement of objects, including packing, shipping, and insurance for collections exhibitions as well as for incoming and outgoing loans to/from the UNM Harwood Museum. Monitors the collections budget. Will supervise the Registrar and designated collections personnel, volunteers and/or students. As a member of the Harwood’s senior staff s/he will play a role in the Museum’s leadership and decision-making.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Directly related Master’s or Terminal degree; at least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. OR Bachelor’s degree; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

- Experience in curatorial
- Museum management experience
- Knowledge of art, art history, and specific types of art works
- Knowledge of and skills in interactive on line digital technologies
