Job Posting: Head Librarian and Archivist, Conjuring Arts Research Center, NYC

The Conjuring Arts Research Center is a non-profit library and archive located in midtown Manhattan. Conjuring Arts is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of magic and its allied arts. Our collection comprises over 12,000 books, including a large collection of rare and unique texts, historical and modern periodicals, personal and organizational papers and records, prints and more. In addition to our physical holdings, we have also created our own database, Ask Alexander, which contains over 2.5 million pages and counting of digitized magic material.

Conjuring Arts is looking for a new Head Librarian and Archivist with an anticipated start date of July 11, 2016. This job will encompass a wide variety of duties and responsibilities needed for the running of a special collections library including:

  • cataloging diverse materials
  • preservation work
  • database instruction and maintenance
  • member and customer relations
  • digital asset management
  • staff management
  • other tasks as necessary

Requirements: The ideal candidate will have experience with cataloging and preservation. It is also desired that they will have completed or will soon be completing their MLS, though other applicants with comparable experience and knowledge will be considered. Attention to detail and the ability to problem solve and work independently are a must. Applicants also need to be comfortable with dogs as there are two that come to the office daily.
