NYFA seeks an accomplished and experienced professional for a temporary Archivist appointment. The selected candidate will work as the lead archivist on a project to appraise, process, preserve, and coordinate selective digitization of NYFA’s records. These records date back to NYFA’s founding in 1971 and contain administrative papers, work samples, correspondences, news clippings, and more. As project manager the archivist will oversee up to two support staff and create and execute a plan for organizing NYFA’s archive in accordance with accepted archival standards. Once processed the collection will be transferred to Fales Library at NYU. This position requires the ability to process the collection, stabilize its content, outsource and coordinate digitization of a variety of media formats, and coordinate all assessment activities according to the archival standards and practices of Fales Library.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in the arts, be able to operate independently and with a small team and have previous experience with an administrative archive or something comparable. We have approximately 1,000 boxes of materials and will send the collection to Fales Library once it is processed, preserved, and digitized. This position is ideal for a self-starter who has previously managed an archive of diverse historical significance. This is project-based position with a flexible schedule.
