The Lamar Dodd School of Art seeks a librarian to assist in the transformation of the School’s Visual Resources Center into a new full-service library. This new library will be the hub for the School’s commitment to research, quality instruction, and community engagement. A successful candidate for this position will have an entrepreneurial spirit and be ready to work with the faculty and the Director to chart a course for the new Lamar Dodd School of Art Library.
The Dodd Librarian will be responsible to the Director of the Lamar Dodd School of Art and the Head of Collection Development with the UGA Libraries for the operation of the Lamar Dodd School of Art Library; for the development and management of the visual resource collection and a small and growing print and periodical collection; and for promoting awareness of and facilitating access to the collections. The position oversees course reserves and circulation for the School of Art community, and includes supervision of multiple student assistants. The Dodd Librarian assists the school’s faculty and students in use of materials and resources through appropriate and meaningful instruction and outreach programs as well as reference and research support. Depending on the qualifications, course instruction may be assigned to this individual.
The Dodd Library will serve as an instructional and research support unit inside the School of Art. This library will become a center for the community by providing meeting space and resources while building a shared collection with the UGA Libraries. The Dodd Library will build and maintain an image database for use in instruction and research by students and faculty. Support for students and faculty will be provided on a variety of levels. The Dodd Librarian will provide user support for digital assets and consultation on best practices for daily use of digital resources.
