Public Art Collections Assistant, Burnaby Art Gallery, BC

Reporting to the Assistant Curator, the Public Art Collections Assistant will assist the Burnaby Art Gallery in its ongoing inventory of public art, focusing on the interpretation and maintenance of public art objects. These duties will include: collecting data on objects; conducting research; entering research information into the CSTextWorks database; performing site maintenance visits to local public artworks; and developing strategies for the interpretation of works (such as mapping, apps, booklets, etc). The candidate will perform other gallery duties as necessary including collections research and other exhibition-related tasks.
This is an auxiliary position, with an hourly wage of $22.72, plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
The schedule for this position is 30 hours per week.
The position runs from June 6, 2016 to September 2, 2016, with some flexibility.

Grenfell Campus Art Gallery is Western Newfoundland’s public art gallery, supporting the Visual Arts Program of Memorial University, local public schools and the community of Corner Brook and the region. The gallery is an interpretive educational gallery dedicated to the research, interpretation and exhibition of contemporary and historical art relevant to regional, national and international interests. We also maintain an active program of collection and conservation of art. The successful candidate will be responsible for updating the collections database; the ongoing digitization and documentation of the collection; exhibition strikes and installations; exhibition development; working with youth; and the daily operation of the gallery. The successful candidate will have training in the visual arts and literacy in database, word-processing and spreadsheet software, an interest in art and gallery operations, strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills, and experience working with youth. Hourly wage: $19.20.
