Job Posting: College Librarian, Leeds College of Art, UK (May 6th deadline)

Leeds College of Art has played a central role in providing specialist education in art, design and the crafts for 170 years and we have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students.

Our College Library operates across two sites, Blenheim Walk campus catering to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and Vernon Street where our further education provision takes place. A knowledgeable team of staff work between both sites. In addition to standard resources (text and electronic), both libraries contain shops selling art materials and stationery. The Library uses the Softlink management system which is shared by other resource areas in the College.

An annual budget allows library stock to maintain currency and also provides for the continuing growth of two special collections of national importance: Artists Books and Photobooks. The Library houses the College Archive and is also involved in the wider College roster of Exhibitions including a series of Library Interventions (residences) by practising artists and a rolling programme of curated displays of Artists Books. Close links are maintained with the local university libraries and the College is a member of the SCONUL access scheme.

A vacancy has arisen for a College Librarian, to lead and develop our busy Library. The role is to manage the operational running of the College Library services including supervising library assistants, organising staffing rotas and undertaking management tasks such as annual staff progress reviews, service reviews and developing enhancement action plans. A key role over the next few years will be to plan and manage the transition to a new and significantly enhanced library facility as part of a new build project.

Forward thinking and keen to develop new approaches and services, the successful candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant field, have a recognised library qualification and membership of CILIP and also have substantial relevant experience of working in an academic library. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate an affinity for and understanding of the arts.
