Phoenix Art Museum is looking for a Head Librarian to manage, plan, and administer the dayto-day operations and functions, and preserve and develop the collections of Phoenix Art Museum’s Lemon Art Research Library to ensure alignment with the Museum’s objectives. Job Duties Include: 1. Manage and supervise Library staff, interns, docent volunteers, and community volunteers 2. Assist with long-term planning of library to increase visibility, improve access and efficiency, and enhance the user experience 3. Provide exceptional customer service to patrons, including the public, staff, docents, trustees, students 4. Manage Library facility, including space planning, maintenance and work orders 5. Plan, develop, and implement library services and programing according to mission, user feedback, and statistical data 6. Conduct reference research for internal and external patrons 7. Provide library instruction on the use of online databases and research best practices 8. Gather, analyze, and report statistics on circulation, attendance, and gifts 9. Manage acquisitions and collection development; including weeding and disposition 10. Develop and oversee Library budget; place orders and submit purchase orders 11. Publicize collection needs, advise donors on selection of donations, solicit gifts for Library, and acknowledge gifts; identify grant opportunities and contribute written content for grant applications 12. Market Library services and resources through public appearances, print, and social media 13. Manage Phoenix Art Museum’s institutional archive 14. Engage Museum patrons at lectures, events, and through public speaking 15. Curate Library displays and Pop-up Library content 16. Implement and serve as system administrator for Museum-wide intranet and chat application 17. Liaise with cataloging vendor, Phoenix Public Library Technical Services Division and perform routine integrated library system (ILS) maintenance on record holdings 18. Manage preservation and maintenance of Library collections 19. Register Phoenix Art Museum publications for Library of Congress Cataloging in Publication, Books In-Print, Copyright, and ISBN numbers. 20. Represent Phoenix Art Museum through memberships with local, regional and national library associations and attendance at related events and seminars 21. Provide program support to the Education Department as needed Minimum Qualifications: Education and experience: 1. ALA accredited Master of Library Science or Information Studies with an academic background in art, art history, or related discipline, demonstrated through undergraduate or advanced degree, coursework, and/or work experience. 2. Minimum of three years of experience in a library (museum, academic, or public) and institutional archive, including administrative and supervisory experience. Knowledge of: 1. LCSH, USMARC, and LC classification systems 2. ILS/OPAC interfaces 3. Digital rights management and copyright 4. Reference resources, both print and electronic 5. Management and leadership principles, including budgeting, procurement, personnel, communication and time management 6. Museum programs and practices Skill and ability to: 1. Manage department operations; organize and oversee multiple projects concurrently 2. Provide leadership and build strong interpersonal relationships 3. Supervise, train, and evaluate volunteers and support staff, including prioritizing and assigning work. 4. Have proficiency in Microsoft Office, Artstor, electronic information systems, and Internet and email systems 5. Communicate effectively and present complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner, both verbally and in writing 6. Spanish language fluency highly desirable 7. Manage and multitask on several assignments and projects and remain highly organized and detail oriented, with persistent follow-up and an ability to handle shifting priorities with limited supervision 8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, including Museum supporters, visitors, members, volunteers, and staff
