Job Description:
  • Develop and deliver subject and assignment-specific instruction about print and online resources
  • Develop and deliver workshops and materials on using the online subscription databases to obtain articles
  • Develop and deliver workshops and materials on using the library catalog to locate books, magazines, films, and other media
  • Assist Reference Librarian to provide library reference services to students and faculty, by responding to requests for research help in-person, and via email
  • Develop and provide training on electronic and print materials addressing the importance of information literacy, including how to assess information sources, how to cite sources and how to use effective online search techniques
  • Assist Information Literacy Program Director to develop subject-specific library resource guides, in print and digital forms, to aid students and faculty in finding the resources most relevant to their field and to improve awareness of the collection
  • Create web-based tutorials and virtual tours about library resources and services in collaboration with the Director and the Systems Librarian
  • Staff the reference desk and provide roving reference services
  • Research and advise on electronic and print resources for potential acquisition
  • Create and apply tools to track and assess the participation and satisfaction of instructional sessions
  • Employ print and electronic reference tools including the integrated library system (Millennium), the library OPAC, subscription databases, and instructional software (Camtasia, iShowU) to create teaching aids
  • Provide training opportunities about the library collections, tools, and resources for library staff
  • Supervise library assistants as staffing patterns require


  • Collaborates as necessary with Library staff on ad hoc projects, reports, events, and online productions
  • Maintains professional development through participation in professional organizations such as Art Libraries Society of North America, American Library Association, Visual Resources Association, and BayNet
  • Maintains knowledge of current practices in library and information technologies and educational trends, particularly in relation to information literacy and instructional design in libraries
  • Cooperates in a teamwork fashion with all coworkers and provides excellent customer service to all library patrons
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned



ALA-accredited Master’s degree; knowledge of information literacy competencies and standards, experience in a college or university; expertise in instructional design.


  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited institution


  • At least one year of experience with academic, branch campus, joint-use or distance learning librarianship
  • Demonstrated facility with virtual reference, webpage design and online tools
  • Strong technology skills including demonstrated experience with courseware, conferencing, social media, multimedia production and emerging technologies
  • Evidence of active participation in information literacy and instruction programs
  • Experience or coursework in instructional design and assessment, and preparation of instruction materials or tutorials
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service for a variety of constituents
  • Evidence of initiative, flexibility and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated involvement in professional research and service activities
