The Chicago Tribune has an opening for a Photo Archivist in the Newsroom Information Center. Responsibilities include archiving published photographs in our archiving system – SCC MediaServer; adding metadata and keywords to photo records; providing research to newsroom staff using both the online database and historical collection of print photographs; participating in other photo and archive related projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate or masters degree in library science; a minimum of three years’ experience in the photo, research, or database area of the reference library in a medium size or large metropolitan newspaper or equivalent; and a working knowledge of SCC MediaServer, Merlin or other electronic photo archiving system. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required as well as good news judgment. Must be able to bend, reach shelves, negotiate narrow aisles and lift up to 30 pounds.
