The Alberta College of Art + Design is currently seeking a temporary Librarian to play a key leadership function as the library moves towards a Learning Commons role within the institution, including facilitating newly developed graduate programs and research. This is a temporary position to cover for a leave until December 31, 2015, and reports to the Associate Vice President, Instructional Affairs.
As the most senior member of staff in the Library, the Librarian provides leadership for the development and maintenance of the library’s collection, utilization of new technologies, and liaising with the College’s Computing and Technical Services and teaching faculty. The position provides library relevant instruction and training to faculty, students and staff in order to facilitate utilization of library resources; provides effective, front-line supervision and day-to-day assignment of tasks for Library staff; keeps current with relevant copyright issues, informing and updating management and making recommendations regarding policy and practice across the institution; assists management with the setting and management of Library budgets; develops and delivers reference services, bibliographic instruction, and research workshops with library staff and teaching faculty and represents the Library, when called upon to do so, both internally and externally, as appropriate.
Key Deliverables for this temporary appointment are:
- Align workflow in the Library with emerging demands across the college (such as graduate studies and research) and the sector.
- Develop a strategy for the transition from an ACAD Library to a Learning Commons paradigm.
- Implement key aspects of the Learning Commons transition strategy as agreed with your supervisor, such as enhancing engagement with faculty.
- Play a key role in the NASAD evaluation process, as directed.
- Contribute towards the development of a digital learning strategy for ACAD.
- Contribute towards the development of a learning and teaching strategy for ACAD.
- A Master’s degree in Library Science and at least three years’ direct experience is essential. An undergraduate degree in an art or design field is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated competency with electronic information resources, collections management, general office systems, research skills and advanced Microsoft Office skills are essential.
- Previous experience in customer service and technology training is essential.
- Strong and demonstrated experience of Canadian Copyright Legislation.
- Experience in delivering workshops and providing training.
- Experience of digital learning.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines and provide information accurately and quickly in a variety of forms upon request.
- Ability to exercise initiative and establish priorities of work in a complex multi task environment.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and in cooperation with colleagues, students, faculty and management.
- Strong English communication skills.
