The University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a Humanities & Fine Arts Librarian at the Assistant Professor rank to assists patrons with their information needs by performing general and specialized reference work. Provides library instruction in assigned subject areas at on- or off-site locations. Participates in collection development and library liaison responsibilities in assigned subject areas. Maintains team-based working relationships with colleagues in the department, library, and the university. Fulfills requirements of faculty status in areas of contributions to librarianship, scholarly activities, and service. Subject area responsibilities include Fine Arts, English, Foreign Languages and other subject areas as assigned. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Reference Services: •Provides general and in-depth reference desk service both at the reference desk and within campus departments for approximately one-fourth of the total workweek, including rotating weekend hours. •Evaluates and selects resources for assigned subject areas and makes them accessible through Campus Guides. •Instructs patrons in the use of print and electronic resources. •Conducts research consultations with students and faculty in assigned subject areas. 2.Instruction Services: •Provides general or specialized library instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in assigned subject areas. Instruction may be provided in the library, at other locations on campus, or to remote users via web-based technology. •Develops and maintains up-to-date instructional materials in print and Web formats. 3.Collections Management and Liaison: •Actively cultivates and promotes interactions with faculty in assigned subject areas to develop and communicate the availability of library resources and services. •Evaluates and selects appropriate resources (monograph, serial, and electronic resources) for the reference collection and assigned subject areas. •Acts as a coordinator between the library and database vendors in assigned subject areas. •Conducts ongoing review and de-selection of materials. 4.Supervision and Coordination: •Provides supervision to Library associates, assistants, and student workers as assigned. •Coordinates the English 116 Information Literacy Program. 5.Other Job Responsibilities: •Participates in the evaluation and assessment of Library programs and services, including compiling and analyzing statistical data. •Develops and maintains current knowledge of advances in reference, instruction, and other areas related to this position by reading professional literature, subscribing to appropriate list servs, and regularly participating in professional development activities. Applies knowledge in continuously improving and advancing reference and instructional skills. •Participates in department and library planning •Develops and documents processes and procedures; periodically reviews and revises processes and procedures as needed. •Accepts and implements other duties as assigned. 6.Faculty Responsibilities: •Serves on library and/or university committees. •Participates in cross-departmental projects within the library. •Participates in professional activities, professional development and scholarly research and publication activities as outlined in the “Guidelines on Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Recommendations for Faculty Members of the University Library”.
