Marquand Library seeks an energetic, production and service-oriented person to prepare books for transfer to ReCAP, manage offsite retrievals, process materials for course reserves, and provide collection development support. During evenings and on weekends, when s/he is the only staff member on duty, this person provides leadership for student workers, interprets and enforces library policies, monitors computers and imaging equipment, and provides basic technical assistance to patrons. S/he staffs the reference desk eight to ten hours per week, and assists individuals and classes with rare book collections following preservation and security protocols. S/he creates metadata in XML for Digital Library projects, and helps with other branch technical services work as needed.
Required: Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, be highly productive, and do sustained and accurate detail work at a computer. Affinity for teamwork, and the ability to be flexible and resourceful in a fast-paced environment. Public service experience, and effective verbal and written communication skills. Intermediate computer skills including desktop productivity software and scanning, and basic knowledge of computer hardware, printers and imaging equipment. Aptitude for working with bibliographic citations in several languages. Associate’s or other two-year degree. Minimum one year experience in an academic, research or corporate library.
Preferences: Facility with Voyager cataloging and circulation modules, ORRS, and Blackboard, or equivalent. Knowledge of bibliographic conventions, and experience searching online catalogs or databases. Experience with antiquarian library or archival collections. Experience with metadata formats and conventions, and knowledge of XML. Bachelor’s degree.
