Special Collections Instruction Librarian (University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries, Colorado)
The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries invites applications from creative librarians to apply for the position of Special Collections Instruction Librarian. As the largest research library in the Rocky Mountain region, the University Libraries is committed to providing instruction to the CU campus and the Front Range higher education community. Promoting use of and access to rare materials and primary source material in support of teaching and research to the campus and broader public is a significant goal of the Libraries. Special subject collections include, but are not limited to, mountaineering (18th century to the present travel and exploration), 19th through 21st century photobooks, and the history of science. The Special Collections Instruction Librarian participates as a member of the department in designing and implementing instruction and outreach programs, providing traditional and virtual reference services, developing online exhibits, facilitating donor relations, and engaging in special projects with campus cultural resources (e.g., CU Museum of Natural History, Heritage Center, National Snow and Ice Data Center, and CU Art Museum colleagues). This position will manage and develop literary manuscript collections, including those containing electronic formats. Creating Encoded Archival Description (EAD) guides is essential. Other responsibilities include working with the Faculty Director of Special Collections in collection development activities. The Special Collections Department serves the students and faculty of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the State of Colorado at large. Instruction and outreach services include work with audiences as diverse as fourth graders to senior citizens. Future instruction and outreach activities may be planned for Spanish-speaking constituencies on campus as opportunities become available. This is a tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Faculty Director of Special Collections. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.
