Technical Services Librarian (The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas)
Responsibilities: System Administrator: Implements library automation system, including: Liaison with Endeavor support, library staff, and Information Systems technician. Creates reports from the library system as needed. Prepares configuration files after every software upgrade. Cataloging: Supervises and trains cataloging staff. Catalogs materials in OCLC and Voyager, using the Anglo-American cataloging rules and Library of Congress classification and subject headings. Oversees authority control for name and subject headings in Voyager database, Maintains quality control of database Planning: Participates in long-range planning for the Hirsch and Bayou Bend libraries. Participates in departmental planning for budget and space, procedure and organization Collection development: Assists with collection development by selecting books in specific areas for the library collection. Reporting: Reports cataloging and processing statistics monthly and annually. Reports regularly to the Library Committee on automation and cataloging projects Reference: Instructs museum staff and patrons about online system. Instructs staff, volunteers and patrons about Library of Congress classifications and subject headings and call numbers Education and Experience: ALA-accredited Masters in Library Science degree Five years post-MLS cataloging experience Experience in cataloguing art-related materials in different formats preferred Experience in supervising and training staff and volunteers Experience in computer maintenance and hardware and software implementation for a library setting See full job description at www.mfah.org/employment
