Job Title: Head Librarian

The New York Film Academy, an accredited film and acting college in the Los Angeles area seeks an energetic, creative, collaborative and flexible individual to manage its small library at the Universal City campus. As Head Librarian, this individual will be responsible for the library staff, all areas of library services and outreach to the faculty and students, as well as developing effective and proactive communication with the college community.
The position is responsible for the collection development and management of library resources for graduate-level programs in film, acting, producing, and screenwriting, including ongoing assessment of collection strengths and weaknesses in relation to institutional needs. Provides general reference services in all of the libraryâ€™s subject areas, and specialized research assistance, as needed, within the librarianâ€™s areas of subject expertise. Supervises and coordinates the daily operations as well as assists with the development of library personnel. Works with faculty to design and provide course-related instruction to graduate classes. Participates in library planning and policy development, and represents the library on committees and task forces as needed.
ALA-accredited Masterâ€™s Degree in Library and Information Science.
Experience with the building of a ‘WASC approved library of data and services’ required. Understanding of online learning resources pertinent to the Entertainment industries.
Ability to function as a self directed leader in a growing, young, private institution. Requires the ability to determine departmental needs and submit a process to fulfill those needs in a timely manner.
Proficiency with computers and software, preferably Mac. Proficiency providing reference services utilizing print and electronic sources. Basic cataloguing ability, and collection development.
Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills with the ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with sensitivities to providing excellent customer services for a diverse environment and student body.
Ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of library staff.
Subject expertise and/or coursework in film, television or the performing arts.
