The Public Services Librarian serves as co-coordinator for planning, implementation, and problem-solving of all public service functions. Key areas of responsibility include reference, bibliographic instruction, web page development, and collection development. Secondary areas of responsibility are access services and general library programming.
The Public Services Librarian exercises supervision over the Circulation and Computer Lab Manager and/or the Evening Circulation Supervisor.
Job responsibilities include:
1. Coordinates reference services, with approximately 2-3 hours of desk-service provision daily.
2. Coordinates bibliographic instruction; including scheduling, preparation of class materials and exercises, teaching classes, and working with other library staff in a team-teaching capacity.
3. Serves as co-coordinator for the Public Services Team with responsibility for planning and implementing initiatives in public service operations (Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Reserves, Reference, Bibliographic Instruction, Computer Lab).
4. Shares collection development responsibilities for general library collections; serves as faculty liaison in 2-3 curriculum areas.
5. Provides primary back up support for access services and secondary back up support in other areas.
6. Works with appropriate campus departments to implement computer lab services in the library.
7. Trains library staff in reference and other public service functions.
8. Creates and updates policies and procedures for public service areas.
9. Collects and analyzes statistical data on public service operations, and reports on departmental activity.
10. Manages designated budgets and other funds appropriated to this area.
11. Serves on committees and represents the library in other capacities as needed.
12. Develops and maintains library web page

14. Works on special projects as established during the library strategic planning process
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
1. ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science.
2. A minimum of 1-2 years of reference experience in an art or academic library setting.
3. Knowledge of current resources and practices in art libraries, particularly in areas of reference service and bibliographic instruction.
4. Experience with public services policies and practices.
5. Experience with integrated library systems, preferably Voyager; and knowledge of online databases.
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership ability.
8. Flexibility appropriate for a dynamic, team-based work setting, with desire to participate in collaborative problem solving.
1. Background in visual arts; BFA, BA in Art Education or Art History, and/or advanced arts related degree preferred.
