CATALOG/REFERENCE LIBRARIAN (FT/37.5 HRS/WK)
The Stout Reference Library of the Indianapolis Museum of Art seeks a knowledgeable candidate to
join a team of talented staff working in a highly collaborative environment. The Catalog/Reference
Librarian reports to the Head of Libraries & Archives and is responsible for the cataloging and
classification of all library materials. The successful candidate will share responsibility for providing
reference services.
Essential job duties:
•
Original and copy cataloging of library materials in all formats and in a variety of languages.
•
Provide reference assistance to museum staff, volunteers, docents, and the public.
•
May supervise and/or train work-study students, volunteers, and interns as needed.
•
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
•
MLS from an ALA-accredited program with a background in Art, Art History, or closely
related field.
•
Cataloging experience, preferably in an academic or research library.
•
Knowledge of MARC, LC, Dewey, and AACR2, as well as authority control. Experience with
OCLC.
•
Experience working with the public in a reference environment.
•
Ability to work flexibly in a changing environment.
•
Must be organized and detail oriented.
•
Working knowledge of at least one foreign language.
•
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•
Must be able to lift library materials and push fully loaded book carts
