The Indianapolis Museum of Art seeks a full-time Archivist to establish an archives program for the museum. Reporting to the Head of Libraries and Archives, the successful candidate will join a team of talented staff working in a highly collaborative environment. Primary job responsibilities for this position include:

• Conducting an inventory and appraisal of existing archival collections
• Developing guidelines, policies, and procedures for archives management, including the creation of internal forms for handling archives requests
• Implementing an arrangement and description program in a manner consistent with standard professional practices
• Ensuring the effective preservation, access, and security of archival collections, as well as determining plans for their short and long-term storage
• Facilitating the online access, implementation, and prioritization of digital projects
• Active participation in identifying funding for special projects
• Collaboration with library staff in contributing original cataloging of archival records
• Education and training of museum staff on the archives program
• Recommendations for a museum-wide records management policy
• Assisting with departmental budgets and with the creation of a collection development policy for the museum archives

• Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program with a concentration or specialization in archival management. Archival certification and background in Art History, Museum Studies, or related field preferred
• At least two years of professional experience processing archival collections
• Experience in the planning and implementation of online access to archival collections
• Working knowledge of practices and techniques of archival descriptive standards, particularly EAD, as well as preservation practices
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly explain archives issues to museum staff and the public
• Ability to lift and move materials weighing 40-45 lbs.
• Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
• Experience working with the public in a reference setting preferred
