Reference Librarian, Humanities & Social Sciences Division, University of British Columbia

The UBC Library requires a librarian to provide reference, instructional services and collection development in the Humanities & Social Sciences Division. This librarian will provide services in humanities & social sciences subjects and in a variety of formats, including electronic, print, microforms, map, government publications, and other media areas. The incumbent will participate in the operation of the HSS Division. This position reports to the Head of the Humanities & Social Sciences Division.

Qualifications and requirements:

A graduate degree from an accredited program in Library or Information Science, with relevant professional experience appropriate to academic librarianship in humanities and social sciences is required. Expertise in computer technology, electronic services and information sources in humanities and social sciences is required. A strong academic background in the social science is highly desirable.Familiarity with alternate formats and European languages is desirable. A commitment to responsive and innovative information services is essential. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Effective instructional skills are required. Experience supervising staff is desired.

Evening and weekend work is required.

Terms of Appointment:

This position will be filled as a full time ongoing position. If eligible and qualified, the successful applicant may be appointed with a confirmed appointment. Otherwise, there will be an initial three-year probationary appointment.  Normally, such an appointment is reviewed by the end of the second year of appointment, and a recommendation is made at that time to grant or not to grant a confirmed appointment.
