The Digital Asset Management (DAM) project is a grant‐funded initiative at the Centre for the Arts and Communications, Grant MacEwan College.  The project is multifaceted involving the shift toward mandatory laptop requirement in the classroom, the development of online environments that encourage cross‐program student collaboration, the use of e‐content in instruction and teaching, and the development of a web presence to highlight the creative output of MacEwan students and faculty.  As part of the DAM project initiative, the Centre for the Arts and Communications Campus requires a Metadata Specialist to recommend appropriate metadata standard(s), controlled vocabularies and workflows for a variety of digital collections that include audio, text, image, moving image and born digital assets. Your recommendation will be based on several key criteria including:
•         Scalability to include future collection growth.
•         Compatibility with other accessible collections and digitization efforts at the provincial level.
•         Accessibility and user needs of MacEwan students, faculty and staff.
•         Sustainability of recommended practices.
•         E‐content preservation and data integrity

As the successful incumbent you will have:
•         A Master’s degree from an accredited ALA Library Science program,
•         Working knowledge of traditional cataloguing rules including MARC and AACR2, controlled vocabularies including LCSH, CSH, TGN, AAT, TGM I and II, ULAN and
•        Experience with two or more metadata schema and protocols such as Dublin Core, EAD, VRA Core, MODS, OAIPMH and METS.

You will have an awareness of:

•         Current issues and trends in metadata and digital content management,
•        Have knowledge and experience using XML and
•         Previous start‐up project experience using digital management systems such as CONTENTdm or Alfresco.

You are organized, succinct and clear in your written communication and demonstrate
an ability to build consensus.

Reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with members of the Digital Asset Management project team and concerned faculty, your primary objectives will be:
•         To produce an online document outlining metadata guidelines for digitized image and audio collections.
•         To draft guidelines addressing acquisition, quality control and copyright issues.
•         To pilot a sample database of e‐objects.
•         To develop training materials.
