Call of Volunteer(s)- Pub Crawl Organizer and/or Connections Liaison

Greetings from Indiana!  We’re in full swing preparing for next year’s annual ARLIS/NA conference to be held in Indianapolis on April 16-21, 2009.  If you haven’t yet seen it, the conference web site is now online.

Going along with the conference’s theme of start your engines, we need to get revved up about the pub crawl.  We’re looking for someone local to Indy who can:

–    figure out a logical and easily locatable meeting place
–    plan us a route of pubs to crawl (including one with food…)
–    get word of the event out to any and all who might be interested

We’ve also been thinking about how we might use ArLiSNAP to promote events where our readers could get together and meet face-to-face.  To this end, we’d like to put out a call for a Connections Liaison (or two) to take up the responsibility of distributing info about opportunities for getting together.  These might include:

–    announcements of local ARLIS/NA chapter or student group meetings
–    info on continuing education opportunities or lectures
–    any other info on events that would facilitate us getting to know one another on a greater frequency than once a year.

We’re glad for any and all volunteers for either the Pub Crawl Organizer or Connections Liaison positions, so just leave a comment if you think you might be interested.

  1. I just put in a request to add the Pub Crawl to the scial schedule site:
    http://arlisna09.sched.org/type/social.

It will begin at 9pm in the lobby of the Marriott, to accommodate for an IU reception that begins at 8pm.

We actually are still looking for someone with knowledge of Indy to help us determine a crawling schedule… any advice?

  2. Just to be clear, I can’t lead/organize this outing b/c I am doing the Indy Reunion that is happening 8-10 that night. But I’ll be happy to catch up with y’all whereever you land later in the evening.

Here are five options below. IMHO, Alcatraz, Rock Bottom, and Ram are are similar aesthetic and food. Claddagh and Slippery Noodle are very different experiences. Have a Nice Day Cafe is to be avoided with our crowd, I think.

Check out this map for locations.

  3. This looks good to me from the map, and certainly all within walkable distances.

In the past, have we set up a crawling schedule with times or anything? Mainly I remember last year that people settled into the first location and never crawled onwards.

  4. I agree, it is a good idea to establish a general schedule. I think that the crawl vs. non-crawl tendency has been affected in the past by the fact that some people have ordered dinner at the first pub. That can sometimes make people very comfy, and they are less likely to move on. This year I don’t think that will be the case since we’re meeting at 9 p.m.

Also, would anyone be able to make small flyers showing our route and the times that the group will be traveling? It would be nice to leave a few at the registration table, and also to pass them out at the ArLiSNAP meeting.

  5. I was just thinking about that. How about 9-9:45pm at the Alzatraz Brewing Co, 9:45-10:30pm at the Claddagh Irish Pub, and 10:30 onwards at the Slippery Noodle? My only logic was that The Slippery Noodle has live blues bands, so might be hard to hear and therefore be best left to the end for serious revelers.

If you’d like me to print the flyers here and drive them down, just let me know.

    Tracy
