Job Description

Position: Image Coordinator, part-time (18.75 hrs/week)
Reports to: Librarian

Overview:
This is a part-time position to administer the museum’s photographic rights and reproduction services. Fills image requests for many types of external and internal publications. Ensures copyright information within MOCA’s collection management and digital asset management systems is updated and accurate. Conducts copyright research and compiles permission credits. Helps retrieve images and answer general image reference queries.

Requirements:
Familiarity with image rights and reproductions practices, and copyright and intellectual property law strongly preferred. Knowledge of Photoshop CS and experience applying digital image metadata required. Experience with collection management and digital asset management systems preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills; outstanding administrative, planning, detail orientation, and organizational skills required. Two years of related work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of contemporary art is helpful.

Essential Functions:

Communicating primarily by telephone and e-mail, works with external clients and media outlets to fill requests for images from the museum’s visual collection. Under the Librarian’s guidance, negotiates fees and terms of image use; generates contracts and invoices; and provides images by client deadlines.

Clears permissions for a variety of images, including for the permanent collection and media, and compiles photography and permission credits.

Works with Deputy Director and Librarian to draft and develop policies for image licensing and copyright issues.

Prepares and transfers digital images for clients using a variety of electronic methods. Prepares and tracks analog images, primarily transparencies and slides, on loan to publishers.

Helps maintain the museum’s visual library containing various formats related to MOCA’s exhibitions and its collections. Reformats, resizes and color corrects images as needed. Organizes and labels photographic materials as needed.

Inputs photo credit and information regarding conditions of use into collection management and digital asset management systems.

Assists staff and outside researchers with general photographic requests.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to visually inspect work. Must be able to bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions. Heavy usage of phones and computers. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required. Mobility to move around the office and distribute reports/correspondence.
