REFERENCE/INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN

Columbia College Chicago seeks an energetic, motivated and team-oriented individual to provide reference service to the Columbia College community, participate in a busy and dynamic information literacy program for undergraduate and graduate students and serve as selector/liaison for one or more college departments.  Some evening and/or weekend hours required.

Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS or MSLS degree. Minimum two years experience in an academic library with a thorough understanding of academic user needs and demonstrated public service experience. Enthusiastic public service orientation and commitment to providing user-centered services. Group instruction experience. Familiarity with instructional methodologies and information literacy principles.
Working knowledge of electronic resources of all types, library catalogs and reference tools.
Must have basic personal computing skills and an interest in learning new software and systems as needed. Ability to perform in-depth research and present findings to users of all types. Familiarity with collection development principles or experience with faculty liaison programs. Strong communication (oral and written) and presentation skills. Ability to create and edit web pages and contribute to online guides and tutorials. Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills exhibiting a high degree of flexibility and ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrated effective time management, project management, and organizational skills. Ability to use initiative to further departmental or library-wide goals. Experience of or commitment to collaboration both inside and outside the Library to create and sustain services in response to changing needs. Active participation
in state or national professional organizations.

Salary:
Commensurate with experience.

Library Instruction Coordinator

The College is seeking a Library Instruction Coordinator. The successful candidate will be an energetic, creative, outgoing and forward-thinking individual ready to coordinate, expand, evaluate and promote our dynamic campus-wide information literacy instruction program for undergraduate and graduate students.  She or he will collaborate with other librarians and campus units to support faculty in incorporating discipline-specific information literacy into their teaching strategies through the use of technology.
Anticipated start date is October 1, 2008.
Responsibilities include reaching out to and supporting faculty; exploring new ways to use technology to incorporate information literacy instruction into courses and programs; identifying and incorporating creative uses of technology to enrich the information literacy program; developing new instructional workshops and tutorials; teaching discipline-specific and course-integrated information literacy classes; coordinating and evaluating instructional activities; and supporting the development of instruction librarians. Duties also include a limited number of reference desk service hours (including a possible evening) and serving as liaison to one or more academic departments.
Reports to Head of Reference and Instruction. Professional development is strongly supported.
Requirements:

*   ALA-accredited MLS with three years professional experience in academic library instruction or comparable experience.
*   Experience managing programs and using technology to improve or expand instructional services preferred.
*   Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with instructional concepts, methodologies and technologies.
*   Familiarity with information resources in all formats.
*   Excellent skills in communication and collaboration, enthusiasm for working with teaching faculty and strong commitment to public service.
*   Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in a culturally diverse college environment.
*   Experience of or commitment to collaboration both inside and outside the Library to create and sustain services in response to changing needs.
*   Knowledge of outcomes-based assessment preferred.
