The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) seeks an energetic and detail oriented individual with strong organizational skills for the position of Temporary Library Assistant. The Temporary Library Assistant will maintain the museum’s photography research library for the period of January 2007-January 2008, after which the position may become permanent.
Chief responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Maintaining all library collections, including vertical files, archives, slide and serials collections
•Assisting Museum staff and visiting researchers with the selection, organization and interpretation of library materials
•Maintaining library catalog utilizing bibliographic standards and authorities
•Copy cataloging library materials, processing new periodicals, and labeling and shelving all items
•Administrative duties including composing, editing, and distributing reports, memoranda, and correspondence
•Maintaining library stacks neatly and in good order
•Participating in internal meetings to coordinate the library’s goals and objectives with those of the Museum
•Establishing and maintaining good rapport with current and potential library Patrons
•Providing input on library policies, goals and planning
•Supervising volunteers and interns as necessary
Strong verbal and writing skills, the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, leadership ability, flexibility, professionalism, and enthusiasm are required.
•BA in Photography or related Fine Arts
•Completed MLS Coursework or enrolled in an accredited School of Library and Information Science
•Familiarity with photography, photographic terms, and formats
•Experience with copy cataloging and processing library materials
•Experience and enthusiasm for providing reference services, and ability to utilize both traditional and electronic format resources
•Working knowledge of MARC format, AACR2 cataloging rules, LCSH, and Library of Congress classification
•Experience with automated library systems
•Computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet
