Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, seeks applications for the full-time professional position of Cataloging and Digital Services Librarian.
The successful appointee will primarily oversee all cataloging and physical processing of books, serials, media and other collections, and supervise some staff and several student assistants. The librarian also works with other faculty and staff campus-wide to develop, promote and maintain digital learning resources, and oversees computer labs staffed by student assistants. Other duties include but are not limited to assisting students and faculty with research questions and providing instruction in the use of online resources.
A master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution and cataloging experience are required. Also required are strong computer/internet skills, demonstrated understanding of current trends and issues regarding digital collections and services, and the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects. College level course work in art, design, and/or art history is strongly preferred.
Kansas City Art Institute is a four-year, private, independent and accredited college of art and design. Founded in 1885, the college is located in the cultural heart of metropolitan Kansas City, in immediate proximity to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and the H&R Block Artspace at Kansas City Art Institute. The college enrolls over 650 undergraduate students drawn from throughout the United States and several other countries. The faculty is comprised of nearly 50 practicing artists and scholars teaching full-time, and over 40 part-time lecturers. A strong visiting artists program complements the academic program.
