The Hampshire College Library Center seeks applications for an Arts Librarian to support students and faculty working in the arts in Hampshire’s distinctive interdisciplinary academic program.
Responsibilities include providing reference, collection development, and bibliographic instruction services to arts faculty and students in two of Hampshire’s interdisciplinary schools; areas of responsibility include architecture, studio arts, art history, writing, dance, music, photography, applied design, book arts and theatre. Candidate is expected to work closely
with faculty on collection development, instruction and information literacy issues and to participate in meetings of the Schools of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies and Interdisciplinary Art as appropriate.
Duties include the selection of library materials relevant to the arts, manage the collection in those areas, and provide leadership in the selection and dissemination of digital image and audio files in the arts.
This is a 28 hour per week position and holds an employment cycle of September 1 to May 31. Some evening and weekend work may be required. An MLS from an ALA accredited program and a subject Masters in the arts are required. Three to five years of library experience, including work in bibliographic instruction / information literacy highly desirable. Knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies in academic libraries and the arts, as well as excellent communication skills (written and oral) are required; teaching experience strongly preferred.
