Information Specialist – American Association of Museums

The American Association of Museums (AAM) is seeking a technology-savvy information specialist with reference service and cataloging experience and evidence of excellent customer service to be part of the Information Center team.

Responsibilities include: Responding (primarily through email) to inquiries from staff at AAM member museums on full range of museum issues and operations as well as general nonprofit best practices; cataloging (both copy and original), maintaining & developing AAM’s collection of print materials (using Surpass library system); managing gifts and exchange program; maintaining AAM taxonomies and thesaurus (using Term Tree); applying taxonomies across AAM; managing permission process for sample document collection and creating PDFs from original electronic files or scanned hard copies; maintaining and updating Web content using AAM’s content management system (CommonSpot); generating service usage reports in Access and from a web statistics program (Urchin).

Requires: MLS or equivalent education; experience providing reference services strongly preferred; experience in museums strongly preferred; ability to develop an in-depth understanding of museum issues and operations critical; strong analytical, oral, and writing skills; commitment to excellent customer service; familiarity with MS Office, especially Access; experience using integrated library systems and ability to learn Surpass and Term Tree; must be comfortable mastering and explaining use of technology to others. Salary is $41,600. EOE
