Assistant Visual Resources Curator, School of Visual Arts, NYC

*Position:*  Assistant Visual Resources Curator

*Reports to:* Visual Resources Curator
*Supervises:* Student workers; Manages Visual Resources Collection in
Curator’s absence (vacation, etc.)

*Responsibilities:* Assists Curator in the daily operation of the Visual
Resources Collection, including image server and database maintenance;
accessioning, mounting, and labeling slides; organizing and managing
slides and electronic images in accordance with the VRA Core; general
collection maintenance, including slide filing; executes incoming
cataloging requests in order to meet deadlines; oversees image
processing (scanning of digital material and copywork photography);
acquire, process and provide access to uncatalogued orders and
donations; partake in training sessions for library workflow, MDID2 and
ARTstor; assist with digital image conversion project; create and upload
metadata for MDID2 online database; familiarize faculty with MDID2 and
ARTstor, as well as prepare them for future digital initiatives; assists
faculty and students in accessing the Visual Resources Collection and
facilitates proper usage of photographic equipment; supervises and
trains student workers.

*Qualifications: *Strong knowledge of digital imaging technologies,
scanning, FileMaker Pro, PhotoShop, HTML, Microsoft Word, Windows
applications and Internet technology. Preferred applicants should have a
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History or Humanities with knowledge of
contemporary art–or be able to demonstrate an equivalent combination of
education and experience. Other qualifications include:

diverse group of people
§ high organizational aptitude and attention to detail
§ good manual dexterity

*Experience:* Previous visual resources or library experience, art
history, gallery, and/or general office experience a plus.

*the Collection:* The School of Visual Arts (SVA) is an established
leader and innovator in the education of artists, offering graduate,
undergraduate and continuing education classes. The Visual Arts Library
houses approximately 165,000 35-millimeter transparencies and 15,000
digital images, the majority of which document painting, sculpture,
photography, architecture, design, and graphics. Images of a wide
variety of contemporary art forms such as video, digital, and
performance art are also maintained in the collection.
