Dear Library School Director/Dean:
We would like to invite your students to participate in the Placement
Service, which is being held in conjunction with the Joint Conference of
Librarians of Color (JCLC).
The Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (JCLC) is the first-ever
national conference to be held and sponsored by the five caucus
associations of color at the same time in the same place. The five caucus
associations are affiliate members of the American Library Association
(ALA) and include the American Indian Library Association (AILA); the
Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA); the Black Caucus of
the American Library Association (BCALA); the Chinese American Librarians
Association (CALA), and REFORMA, the National Association to Provide
Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking.
The JCLC will be held in Dallas, TX at the Adam’s Mark Dallas Hotel.
The JCLC is scheduled for October 11-15, 2006. There will be one day for
pre-conference sessions (Oct. 11) and three and a half days for programs
and events. The conference will end before noon on Sunday, October 15.
The Placement Center for the JCLC will be held in the Lone Star Ballroom C
of the Adams Mark Hotel, and will operate during the following days and
Thursday, Oct. 12, 200612:00 Noon to 5:00 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 13, 20069:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Placement Service is free to job seekers and available to anyone-not just
ALA and/or JCLC members or to on-site attendees. You may use this service
even if you won’t be attending the conference.
If candidates do attend the conference, however, that’s even better. They
will have an opportunity to meet face to face with employers from across
the country. They could walk-away with multiple job offers!
Your students can take advantage of this opportunity right now. All they
need to do is visit www.ala.org/jclc . Although registration is not
required, we do recommend it since it will give job seekers immediate
exposure to registered employers.
Here at the American Library Association, we understand the employment
needs of your graduates and alumni. The Placement Service was designed
with them in mind. We are here to help. Our commitment is evidenced by the
variety of resources we provide, including onsite computers, access to a
national pool of employers, and onsite interviewing facilities.
If you have questions or need additional information, feel free to contact
me at 1-800-545-2433 ext. 4280 or email@example.com .
